Guide to Javea

Javea is on the northern section of Costa Blanca between the pine-clad capes of San Antonio and La Nao. This 20km stretch of coast is backed by Mount Montgo and Javea is one of the friendliest family resorts in Spain. A palm-lined promenade, pretty boutiques and lively pavement cafes sit alongside fabulous beaches with good facilities offering a wide range of activities for your villa holiday in the sun.

Arenal Beach is a fabulous stretch of clean white sand with good beachside facilities, water sports, beachfront cafes and bars. Granadella has smaller shingle beaches bordered by pine trees which are popular with divers. The old port reminds us of another age, and winding narrow streets curl down into the modern marina, where the main shopping area can be found. The working harbour offers fresh fish which can be bought daily from the market. In the old town, you will find bars and shops sprinkled amongst historical buildings with wrought iron balconies and museums and there is a street market held here on Thursdays.

Nightlife in Javea nightlife buzzes happily in the port’s restaurants and bars but is more sedate than some of the coast’s flashier neighbours. A pleasant meal to the sound of Spanish guitar or a karaoke night would be most common, although there are a couple of discreet discos in Arenal area.

Arenal Beach - Jávea’s main beach, Arenal is a sandy bay with palm trees fringed with clean blue water. The promenade has bars and restaurants offering a diversity of cuisine. A perfect place for families of all ages, the beach is equipped with volleyball nets, climbing frames, water rafts, pedaloes and playcentres for the under eights. You will find water sports such as water skiing and jet skiing in the port area. Lifeguards are present throughout the summer.

Dénia - Les Marines and Les Bovetes are white sandy beaches to the north of the town. To the south lie a series of small coves with a rocky coast, a perfect place to go fishing, snorkelling or diving. At Les Deveses and Els Palmars are Blue Flag beaches with clean, safe water which is patrolled by lifeguards during high season. A good selection of bars and restaurants line the seafront, and the wide sand is perfect for football and volleyball. Climbing frames will keep the children busy, but you can also hire sail boats, dinghies and pedaloes.

Take time to go…

visit the Vergel Safari park beyond Ondara. From the safety of your car, watch lions, tigers, leopards and wolves walking around in freedom.

take a trip to Cueva de las Calaveras (Cave of the Skulls) closeby. Twelve skulls were found here in 1768, perhaps belonging to Moor King Ali-Moho and his eleven wives. A magnificent natural cave with stalagtites and stalagmites.

take part in a Spanish Fiesta. The Festival of the Bonfires sees giant effigies burnt to symbolise spiritual rebirth, there are processions, fireworks and music to dance the night away – a Spanish experience not to be missed!

take the kids to Tirra Mitica, the largest theme park in Spain, on the outskirts of Benidorm. A fantastic family day out among ancient worlds, the brave can try the Tizona, an inverted roller coaster which reaches speeds of 62mph! (45 minutes from Javea).

hire a bike from one of Javea’s cycle shops and take a tour of the beautiful coastline.

try Go Karting at Ondara – an 850m track which has double carts for adults to accompany younger children.

go horse-riding. Centro Hipico and Excuela de Equitacion La Stella can be found at Javea and is a great way to explore the surrounding countryside.
