Lying just to the west of Reina Sofia (Tenerife South) airport, this area is a peaceful tranquil site far from the energy of Playa de Las Americas. All our villas on El Callao are surrounded by the greens and fairways of the golf course, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is at the foot of Mount Teide.

There are several beaches to choose from within a 15 minute drive. The lovely beaches at Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas are a 10 minute drive, and the fabulous beaches of El Médano are about the same distance in the opposite direction.

The golf course itself, built by Donald Steel, has 18 holes and presents challenges to even the most experienced players, yet still offers an attractive game to those of more modest ability. From the first tee, with its spectacular ocean views, through to the panorama of mountains with the majestic Mount Teide at the crown, the course is picturesque and a lovely way to spend a few hours.

There are several good places to go diving locally. Las Gellatas is just a 10 minute drive away and known for its surfing, quayside fish market, tapas bars and beach front restaurants.

There are good amenities close by, including a supermarket and a choice of restaurants. On the complex, there is a choice of all day meals and snacks at the Island bar, or next to the pool the Moorish style a la carte restaurant has evening entertainment. Just outside the complex are various bars and restaurants, the Terrace Bar, Frosties, Premier bar and a Chinese restaurant are a short walk away. Looking up from the 9th hole, you can see the Mirador restaurant cut into the mountain side which has a good reputation for good quality food, and breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Villas to Go recommended beaches

El Medano A famous open flat beach, a 15 minute drive to the east. Windy but not choppy, making it ideal for windsurfing. This popular beach has hosted the world championships. There is a Wind surfing club here where you can get lessons and hire equipment.

Las Galletas (2km) A pretty beach with black volcanic sand and natural pebbles with a small bay and crystal clear waters. There is a short promenade with bars and restaurants , and sun beds and umbrellas are available for hire. There are also beach showers and red cross present in the height of the season.

Los Cristianos, La Vistas (15 minute drive) White yellow sandy beach, with sun beds and shades, shallow water, restaurants, bars and some water sports.

Take time to go…

Visit the precariously perched village of Masca, in the Teno mountains and enjoy the picturesque lush scenery of the drive along winding roads.

Take a boat trip to visit the dramatic sheer cliffs at Los Gigantes, and stop off to enjoy the spectacular beach there. Enjoy the feel of sun on your face as you relax on the deck – maybe you’ll spot a dolphin or two…

Visit the dormant volcano of Mount Teide, the highest in Spain - it makes a stunning day out. Enjoy the spectacular views from the summit, the sulphurous steam holes and multicoloured volcanic rock.

Take a day trip to the old colonial town of Puerto de la Cruz.

Join in a Canarian fiesta. They take place throughout the summer and are a riot of music, dancing, fireworks and colourful costumes – a tradition not to be missed.

Maybe the family would enjoy a day at the island’s animal sanctuary. Take a look at polar bears, sharks and watch the colourful parrots.
