Out and about
Aphrodite Hills is located on the southern coast of Cyprus. The island is inextricably linked to the legend of Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty. Born from the foam of the sea at Petra tou Romiou, she roamed the island’s western region. Just 20km away is Paphos, whose beautiful historical ruins and mysterious underground vaults add up to nothing less than an open museum - so much so that UNESCO added the whole town to its World Cultural Heritage List. The town also offers a cosmopolitan selection of bars, cafes and restaurants, stylish late night clubs, an aquarium and a go-karting track.
Cyprus is a paradise for sun worshippers. Even in the middle of winter, when temperatures get on the cool side, the sun usually shines for the better part of the day.
The best place to soak up the Cyprus sunshine is at the beach, and with more than four hundred miles of coastline, there are plenty to choose from. Pissouri is the nearest beach; part sand, part shingle, its clear warm waters attracts families with young children. Those seeking water sports should head to either Paphos or Limassol, where you will find centres offering diving, water skiing, jetskiing, paragliding, banana boats and sailing. Of course, the rocky coastline and crystal clear blue waters offer unmissable snorkelling.
Aphrodite Hills is also an excellent base for exploring the Akamas National Park or the Troodos Mountains. Only 1.5 hours from the resort, the Troodos Mountains offer an alluring contrast to the beach. Bracing pine-scented air, hiking trails, Byzantine churches, and traditional villages are just some of the treasures to be found. What’s more, in Cyprus it’s possible to sunbathe on the beach in the morning and ski in the afternoon. The Troodos Mountains offer 4 ski slopes, open from early January until March.
