Location
Can Domingo is perched at the top of a short steep drive, nestled amidst pine trees and olive groves a few kilometres from Pollensa Old Town. The villa enjoys far-reaching views across open countryside to rugged mountains and the Mediterranean in the distance. It is possible to stroll to the shops and restaurants in the Old Town, ideally in the cool of the evening, although a car is recommended. The nearest beach is at the resort of Puerto Pollensa around 8km from the villa.
Pollensa was originally a Roman town and evidence of a bygone era can be found all around you in the narrow winding streets. There is a range of traditional craft shops, boutiques and pavement cafes hiding in the maze of cobbled streets waiting to be discovered. The town’s main square Placa Major is a lovely place to enjoy an evening meal, and it plays host to a Sunday morning market which sells an array of fresh local produce and traditional handicrafts.
For a lively beach life, Puerto Pollensa is only a short drive from the villa. Here you will find a sweeping horseshoe bay with a fine white stretch of sand which gently shelves into calm, clear blue waters. There are excellent beachside facilities – ice-cream shops, kiosks, sun beds and parasols for hire, not to mention the range of water sports on offer – waterskiing, jet skiing, parasailing and windsurfing to name a few. Boat trips depart from here on island excursions, including one that heads up the coast to the Formentor peninsular, taking in some of the more secluded coves along the way.
In the evening, Puerto Pollensa has a low key nightlife which centres around dining out in restaurants and drinking in pavement cafes. A lovely place for an evening stroll is the ‘Pine Walk’, a charming leafy promenade lined with restaurants and cafes. Market day is on a Wednesday in the town square.
A little further along the coast is the large and lively port of Port d’Alcudia, which has a good range of shops, restaurants and boutiques all lining a sweeping sandy bay. The beach here is wide and white, with warm shallow waters and a host of beach activities to choose from including a good selection of water sports. You will find a water park here, and a more lively nightlife than in Puerto Pollensa. For a change of pace, the old town of Alcudia is a beautifully preserved medieval walled city.
