Casa Ancora is situated on Funchal Ridge, an exclusive development 5km from historical Lagos. One of the best locations in the Algarve, Funchal Ridge is an exclusive development of smart villas set in lush gardens with sea views. Enjoying uninterrupted rural tranquility, the villa is 2.5km from the nearest restaurant and 3km from the nearest supermarket. Praia da Luz, a beautiful sandy beach popular with families, is just 4km away.

Luz is a popular fishing port that retains much of its traditional charm but also has a bustling cosmopolitan atmosphere. Its beach, Praia da Luz, is one of the Algarve’s finest with fine, white sands and warm turquoise waters. It is well served by a few beachside cafes and water sports are on offer in summer. Its colourful sandstone cliffs provide beautiful cliff-top walks and at one end are the locally renowned ‘rocha negra’ or black rocks; evidence of ancient volcanic activity.

5km away is the historic maritime city of Lagos. This relaxed and charming city offers a great selection of restaurants, most of which are found in the pedestrianised street. Lined with open-air cafes, the main square of Praca da Republica is the best place to indulge in a cool drink and a spot of people watching. There are often lots of street entertainers as well; everything from magicians to clowns and living statues.
Proud of its history, Lagos played an important part in the Age of Discovery and Henry the Navigator had his ships built here. It was also home to some of the earliest slave markets. Its rich, long history ensures that there are plenty of buildings and historic sites worth visiting; the governor’s castle and the church of St Sebastian being two of them.

• Lagos Zoo: set in lovely landscaped gardens with exotic plants, this zoo contains 250 different animals and offers the chance to get close to a variety of species. There is an educational farm, souvenir shop and restaurant. Located between Sao Joao and Bensafrim.
• Slide and Splash: one of Europe’s biggest water parks, it aims to keep you busy for a whole day with is range of plunging and gentle slides, swimming pools and a lazy rubber ring river. Near Lagoa.

Approach

The house is set on a south-east facing wooded slope and commands stunning views over the bay of Lagos. A private driveway takes you from the road to the villa, which is surrounded by leafy gardens.

Ground Floor

The front door opens to an entrance hall. Immediately on the right is a newly-built bedroom with twin beds and fitted wardrobes. Passing this bedroom, the hallway becomes a T-shape with the staircase to the right and the three bedrooms to the left.
The master bedroom is furnished with a twin bed, fitted wardrobe, and an en suite bathroom. There are also two twin bedrooms, one with an en suite bathroom and one without. These three bedrooms all have doors to the pool terrace.

First Floor

Upstairs, the landing leads to the spacious light and airy living room which enjoys magnificent views across the countryside to the shimmering sea. Comfortable sofas are arranged around the classically decorated living room, with scatter cushions and lamps adding a homely touch.

The living room leads to a separate dining room, with a dining table to seat eight. Both rooms have French windows that open to a spacious terrace overlooking the pool area. Standing out here, you can take in the views and enjoy the fresh sea breeze.

The modern kitchen is beside the dining room. Fully equipped, it has a hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The washing machine can be found in a separate utility room, next to a guest cloakroom.

Outside

From downstairs you step out onto the spacious pool terrace with tear-drop pool. There are plenty of places to sunbathe by the pool, and steps lead gently into the shallow end. Beside the pool is a shaded pool house with a stone barbeque, ideal for leisurely al fresco dining on the terrace. Taking in the beautiful views from the veranda while supper sizzles on the grill is a pleasure you’re sure to remember.


Surrounding the villa are beautiful gardens surrounded by mature trees. There is plenty of room for the children to run around, or for you to stretch out with a good book; laying in the garden you can hear the soothing sound of birdsong and crickets, and little else.

Beside the garden is the private hard-surface tennis court, ideal for family matches: will the parents beat the kids? Guests are asked to bring their own tennis equipment.
