Cortona is an ancient Tuscan hill town, to which most other hill towns would aspire, if only they could – from afar, it seems to float high above the Valdichiana plain as it spills down a spur of Mont’Egidio. Its terraced green slopes are covered with olive trees and vines while, within its medieval ramparts, attractive cobblestoned streets and steps climb steeply towards the old fortress Medicea at the top of the town. Michelangelo’s forerunner, Luca Signorelli, was born here - no doubt inspired to greatness by the views over the plain to Lake Trasimeno in Umbria.

The medieval heart is the pedestrianised Via Nazionale, better known locally as the Via Rugapiana, or level street, because it is the only street in the centre which is gradient-free. And we are delighted to say that our Casa Cocco is located a mere 350 metre away – perfect, not just for exploring mysterious alleyways and Renaissance gems, such as the Palazzo Pretorio and the masterpieces in the Diocesan Museum, but also nearby Montepulciano, Perugia and Siena. Casa Coccolina (55 sq.mt) is an ancient building that has been renovated in typical Tuscan style with lots of wood and stone and furnished to a high standard. Free parking 100 - 200 metres away from the cottage.
