This family villa is on one level, with a large sun-filled terrace and private pool to the back.

Approach

This white-washed holiday villa is set in a peaceful elevated position on a hillside above Carvoeiro. From the road you turn into the driveway and parking area. Steps lead you up to the villa entrance and an arched side gate leads to the pool terrace.

Ground Floor

The light and airy sitting area has soft sofas and armchairs, a corner cabinet holding the TV/DVD Player, with an open fireplace ceiling fan, and patio doors opening on to the sun-filled terrace. A wide square archway takes you to the elegant formal dining area which has a large wooden side dresser and a polished wood table and eight chairs. An open doorway to the side takes you through to the kitchen.
The kitchen is a mix of traditional style and modern fittings. Two walls are fitted with a range of eye and base level wooden units, topped by a black worktop. An integral sink sits beneath a sunny window and there is a ceiling fan for cooling things down – handy if you’re using the oven. The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, and there is a separate table/breakfast bar on the free wall, with six stools.
The master bedroom has a wooden-framed double bed, en-suite bathroom and doors opening on to the sun-filled terrace. As well as a ceiling fan, the room is also furnished with bedside cabinets, small reading lamps and a chest of drawers. The twin rooms have wooden-framed twin beds and bedside tables with small reading lamps. One has an en-suite shower room and the other shares a family bathroom with the remaining single room.

Outside

The large sunny terrace stretches out to the back of the villa and is bordered by a white rendered wall. The large private pool is in the centre and has integral steps to one side leading you gently into the water. To the side of the pool is a green lawn with a circular flowerbed with tall shrubs and leafy plants in terracotta pots.
In the far corner of the terrace is a dining area covered by a small roof, and a built-in barbecue. The poolside shower is handy for rinsing off after sandcastle-building sessions at the beach. There is also a shady canvas pagoda by the poolside with a garden table and chairs – an ideal spot for long lazy lunches whilst the kids splash in the pool.

Location

Casa da Colina is set in a peaceful residential area, on a hillside 1.5km above Carvoeiro. There is a mini-market just 500m away and plenty more amenities and restaurants can be found following a 15-minute downhill stroll into Carvoeiro.

Carvoeiro was once a quiet fishing village but has steadily grown throughout the years to incorporate the flourishing tourist trade. The streets are lined with many shops, bars and restaurants. The sandy beach offers a selection of water sports in the summer. Although now a bustling town, the essence of the sleepy village still remains through the local fisherman who sail the seas and bring home their catches, sorting them in the harbour. A stroll around the older streets of the town will lead you through quaint shops selling local crafts and market stalls selling fresh local goods.

• ZooMarine – an ocean theme park set amongst lakes and gardens with exhibitions, shows and rides to entertain the whole family. Has a large range of marine animals from sea lions and dolphins to turtles and exotic birds. Approx 20km away.
