Villa Walkthrough
Casa da Luz is set all on one level with bedrooms to the front of the villa, and living space at the back; opening onto the courtyard garden.
Ground Floor
This restored 16th century building has great charm and a homely feel but has been nicely furnished and well-equipped with modern comforts and conveniences. The rooms have white walls, tiled floors and high ceilings throughout – feeling cool yet cosy. Many of the windows feature ornate frames and deep wooden sills, as well as antique solid wood furniture. As you enter the villa there is a long hallway leading down to the living room/kitchen. You will find two bedrooms and a bathroom on each side of the hallway.
The cosy living room is fitted with a large l-shaped sofa that can seat lots of people, and a solid wood coffee table. There is also a TV and CD stereo. Doors open out onto the courtyard garden.
Between the living room and kitchen is a small dining area with a rectangular dining table and six chairs. The open-plan kitchen is modern but with country-style. Upon the walls, there are white tiles with a colourful picture border. Rows of white units at base and eye level are topped by a grey granite worktop with integral sink and hob. This modern kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, oven and fridge/freezer.
Casa da Luz has four bedrooms; one is a children’s room with two sets of brightly coloured bunk-beds (if there’s only two kids they’ll be no fights over who gets the top bunk!). The three twin bedrooms are individually decorated with different colourful fabrics and furniture. Typically the three spacious bedrooms contain two twin wooden-framed beds, bedside cabinets, chests of drawers, and either a free-standing or fitted double wardrobe. In addition, the bedrooms have nice homely touches such as wicker armchairs with cushions, small reading lamps and draping curtains at deep bay windows.
Outside
Doors lead from the main building to a central courtyard garden, edged by walls and a few flowering plants. This outside space is bordered on the opposite side by a large garage building. An external staircase takes you up to a large roof terrace above the garage where there are nice views across the Old Town. This is a lovely spot to sit and relax with a glass of wine as the sunlight starts to fade.
In the terraced courtyard there is a circular Jacuzzi pool with coldwater for cooling off in the midday heat, and bubbles to relax and unwind. There is also a built-in barbecue and garden tables and chairs, everything you need for a family dinner cooked fresh on the sizzling grill.
Additional Information
Casa da Luz is located opposite the Solemar Hotel where guests are very welcome in its restaurants and bars. Most nights there is live music in the bar, and folk dancing and cabaret evenings are also arranged.

Villa was very well located for all amenities - a very short walk to the beach, restaurants, shops etc.Experience Recommendations:
We liked the steps bar which is nearest to the villa and became our 'local' for the duration of the stay.

Although we enjoyed our holiday and the villa met our needs i must say at first we were concerned about the noise. the location of the villa is very central if you have no diabilities as you encounter steps no matter what way you go. the music from the square and steps bar as well as the constant traffic of cars, motor bikes, skateboards and people walking along the lane at all hours would keep you awake if a light sleeper particularly as it was too warm to sleep with the windows closed. if fans had been provided this would have been possible therefore cutting out the noise dramatically. also the bell tower next to the villa goes on the hour and half hour but must say we got that we didn't hear it after the first week. these are not complaints but observations which could be helped by fans being available in each of the rooms. the villa is central and has great walks in either direction whether you want to be in the hub of things or enjoy a quiet walk. the staff attending the villa were attentive and curteous as was our representative who we had to contact. airport transfers were also excellent. i hope these comments are helpful and we would return to this villa and/or the area. my family and i enjoyed the freedom and privacy of the villa and have recommended this type of holiday to family and friends.Experience Recommendations:
Good variety of restaurants but would highly recommend fernandos situtated on the square. food great, service and staff commendable. ideal for families. train between old town and the strip excellent value for money and great way of getting around area. zoomarine also excellent value for money and excellent day out.
Location
Casa da Luz dates back to the 16th century and has an interesting history as it was one of the only structures in Albufeira to survive a very destructive earthquake which hit Portugal in 1755. Full of charm and homely style, this villa has been beautifully restored to provide spacious accommodation, in a fantastic location. It is situated on a quiet lane in the centre of Albufeira’s Old Town, near the steps that lead down the pedestrian tunnel way to the main square of Albufeira and the beach. This location is fantastic for those who like to explore and means that a short walk in the evening brings you to a wide selection of restaurants.
Old Albufeira is now pedestrianised and closed to traffic, a result of its conservation area status. There’s lots of history here and the Moorish influence can still be seen in the tall minaret-like chimneys. If you head uphill, a walk along the winding cliff-top lane leads to a nearby fishing bay surrounded by excellent fish restaurants. Whilst a short walk to the east brings you to a viewpoint overlooking the bay and the new yacht marina.
Albufeira is a sprawling town set across a large area, with plenty to see and something to suit everyone. During the day you can enjoy the sandy stretches of beach or browse the markets where local handicrafts and fresh goods are sold. In the evening, a wide variety of bars, restaurants and clubs fill the streets with people and life; locals sit on the terraces of traditional restaurants, the bars fill up with thirsty punters, and all kinds of music drift across the air. You can also stroll around the newly completed marina in the west and admire the dazzling array of white yachts. Alternatively, you could wander around the Old Town and explore the maze of cobbled streets, past white-washed fishermen’s houses.
Many of Albufeira’s local beaches have water sports on offer throughout the summer, and there are plenty of golf courses, tennis courts and horse riding facilities found all around the Algarve. The nearest golf course is Balaia Golf, a 9-hole course about 3km away.
Nearby attractions for those with children include.
• Slide and Splash – a huge water park with pools, Jacuzzis, slides and rapids that can keep the whole family amused for a day. There are plenty of grassy areas for relaxing and picnicking and because the grounds are so large, it doesn’t get too crowded. Located north of the town on the N125, approx 25km away.
