Approach

The charming Casa de Merim is set in the quiet residential development of Algar Seco, a protected local beauty spot and conservation area. As you drive through the Algar Seco Park, there are white-washed villas and smart apartments. From the road you go down a flight of steps to the entrance into the living area.

Ground Floor

This charming holiday villa is decorated throughout with white walls, smooth tiled floors and nice details such as soft cushions and colourful prints on the walls. The sitting room is light and airy but cosy, and arranged around an open fireplace. It is nicely furnished with a sofa, two wicker armchairs, rug, coffee table, table and lamp and satellite TV. Also in the living room is a dining table and four chairs.
The kitchen is fully fitted and contains modern appliances including a dishwasher, microwave and washing machine.
The master bedroom has a double bed and there is a bedroom furnished with twin beds. These rooms share the use of a family bathroom with full bathtub.

Outside

The small, sun-filled garden faces towards the nearby Atlantic Ocean, with lovely views over the blue horizon. In front of the small terrace are two raised lawns, either side of a central paved path which leads to the boundary wall. Here you can sunbathe on a lounger and gaze out to the sea. The garden is bordered by pretty flowers, small trees and a spiky palm. There is a barbecue built into an external wall, and tables and chairs on the terrace for al fresco dining. What better place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening, as the golden sun sinks beneath the horizon?

Location

Casa Merim is located in the beautiful, small seaside development of Algar Seco. The coastline here features dramatic cliffs, hidden caves and rocky formations. This area is a well-known local beauty spot and is under conservation protection, so it is quiet and calm. Riding stables, golf courses and tennis courts are on your doorstep and the bustling village centre of Carvoeiro is only 750m away. Algar Seco has a daily fruit, vegetable and fish market and a main market once a month selling a large variety of goods.

Only 750m away, Carvoeiro beach is easily accessible and sandy, but fairly small so it can become crowded in high season. However, there are plenty of beaches along this stretch of coastline and those who explore further afield are likely to be rewarded with more privacy and space.

Carvoeiro was once a quiet fishing village but has steadily grown throughout the years to incorporate the flourishing tourist trade. The streets are lined with many shops, bars and restaurants and down at the beach, there are boats and watersports. The essence of the sleepy village still remains in the local fishermen who bring home their catches, sorting them in the harbour. A stroll around the older streets of the town will lead you through quaint shops selling local crafts and market stalls selling fresh local goods.

For a more traditional glimpse of the Algarve, travel 10km to the charming fishing village of Ferragudo with narrow streets lined with white-washed houses, leading gently down to the river Arade. It has a traditional village square lined with a few cafes and bars where the locals drink and gossip. It is also home to the 16th century fort Fort of São João de Arade, now a private home, which sits atop the hill guarding the village.

• Aqualand water park – plenty of slides and flumes to scream your way down and lazy rapids where you can float along in rubber rings. Buses run from Armacao de Pera, or by car it is approx. 10km away (open April-October).
• Krazy World – a family attractions site with a small zoo that has live animal shows throughout the summer and aims to inspire children about conservation. There is also a petting zoo (with camels and llamas!), pony rides and mini-golf so there’s enough to keep the whole family occupied for a day. Approx. 20km away
• ZooMarine – an ocean theme park set amongst lakes and gardens with exhibitions, shows and rides to entertain the whole family. Has a large range of marine animals from sea lions and dolphins to turtles and exotic birds. Approx 20km away
