Location
Set amidst acres of lush, green countryside on a private estate, Casa da Lago offers peace and seclusion for a party of up to 10 people. A car is considered essential, although the villa does provide bicycles which are a nice way for the more adventurous to travel to the nearby village.
Porches, 1.5km away, is an unspoilt and picturesque Algarvian village, well-known for its traditional pottery. The pace of life is slow and there are a few friendly cafes, restaurants and shops to serve your essential needs.
The nearest beach is Senhora da Rocha, 3,5 km away. This is a sandy bay surrounded by high cliffs with a pretty cliff-top chapel. There is a beachside café and a natural tunnel leads you onto an adjacent beach should you want more privacy. There is plenty of parking and a group of restaurants at the cliff-top.
About 10km away is the nearest golf course of Salgados, an 18-hole course; one of the newest in the Algarve. It has many lakes and most of the holes are influenced by water hazards.
The popular beach resort of Armacão de Pera is only 4km away. There is a sandy stretch of beach ideal for long walks, and giving plenty of room for everyone (and it can get busy in high season). The beachfront does have several high-rise apartments, the upside of which is the vast array of cafes, shops and restaurants to serve all your needs. And should you wish to leave the peace of the villa, it has some lively nightlife.
15km away is the large village of Carvoeiro; once a quiet fishing village that has steadily grown throughout the years to incorporate the flourishing tourist trade. Its streets are lined with shops, bars and restaurants and market stalls selling fresh, local goods. Its sandy beach is very popular and offers water sports in high season, but is quite small and can become crowded. Although now a bustling place in summer, the essence of the sleepy village still remains in the local fisherman who sail the seas and bring home their catches, sorting them in the harbour.
For those with kids, good family attractions nearby include…
• Aqualand Water Park – Located about 3km away in Alcantarilha, this water park has plenty of slides and flumes to scream your way down and rapids where you can float along in rubber rings. Buses run from Armacao de Pera.
• ZooMarine – an ocean theme park set amongst lakes and gardens with exhibitions, shows and rides to entertain the whole family. Has a large range of marine animals from sea lions and dolphins to turtles and exotic birds. Approx 13km away
• Krazy World – a family attractions site with a small zoo that has live animal shows throughout the summer and aims to inspire children about conservation. There is also a petting zoo (with camels and llamas!), pony rides and mini-golf so there’s enough to keep the whole family occupied for a day. Approx. 25km away

In Detail
Approach
Casa do Lago sits proudly at the top of a slight slope, backed by dense woodland and overlooking the green countryside. Meaning ‘house on the lake’, the villa overlooks a large natural pond on the left of the extensive grounds. You reach this holiday villa via a long winding road. A pathway then leads up a few stone steps to the small front patio and through the front entrance into the spacious open-plan living/dining room.
Ground Floor
The villa is decorated throughout with white walls, smooth, tiled flooring and tasteful accessories such as cushions and colourful prints on the walls. The living/dining
room is light and airy with a cosy sitting room and formal dining area, central patio doors open on to the small patio at the front of the house.
The cosy sitting area contains two large sofas along either wall, and a few armchairs. There is also a central glass-topped coffee table and satellite TV with Video and DVD player. Patio doors open on to a terrace overlooking the pond. At the opposite end, there is an attractive large wooden dresser, a polished wooden dining table and chairs for eight.
The large, country-style, farmhouse kitchen has a breakfast table and chairs and is well equipped with modern appliances including a dishwasher, microwave and washing machine.
The five bedrooms in the property are all furnished with twins and have their own en-suite shower rooms. The bedrooms are all decorated and arranged differently but are comfortable and tasteful, and typically contain two wooden-framed beds, bedside tables with reading lamps and colourful prints on the walls.
Outside
Just outside of the living room is a small patio and an area of rockery planted with low-growing green shrubs. This is a quiet spot for surveying the beautiful countryside, and there is a pretty garden bench for that purpose. A wide path leads you down to the huge garden and pool below. The private pool has ladder access and is surrounded by vast green lawns; ideal for sunbathing and playing games. This huge pool has four ever deepening levels, leading you from the warmer shallows to the cooler deep end. There are plenty of sunloungers and sunny yellow parasols, and garden tables and chairs.
Casa do Lago is surrounded by sweeping countryside, carpeted in green grass and full of spindly, twisting olive trees. Dense copses of trees line the area and provide both privacy and areas of natural woodland to explore.
There are several footpaths winding around the estate which are ideal for long walks. The estate also has a large stable block home to some chestnut horses. There are also bicycles available for your use.
