Villa Liriana is ideally located on the Penina estate just a short walk from a championship golf course. The five star Penina hotel and restaurant is only 800m away, with a wider selection of local shops and bars easily accessible by car. The popular beach resort of Alvor, where you will find an excellent sandy beach, water sports and numerous restaurants offering traditional Portuguese fayre, is about 6km from the villa.
The original site of Alvor village dates back to Roman times and historians think that it was founded by Hannibal in 182 BC. Today, with its low whitewashed houses and narrow streets, Alvor is still recognisable as the fishing village it once was, but has blossomed into a popular holiday destination. Here you will find a good range of shops, restaurants and bars and a pretty sandy beach with excellent facilities on a wide stretch of fine white sand. The parish church was partially destroyed during an earthquake in 1755 but rebuilt during the reign of Dom Manuel.
Portimao is a bustling town and busy fishing port which offers extensive shopping and restaurant facilities. Alternatively, Lagos is the third largest town in the Algarve and you can still see the remains of its ancient wall and fortress guarding the harbour. Once the centre of trade between Portugal and Africa, its shipyards built the ‘Caravelas’ which was sailed by Henry the Navigator on his exploration voyages. Take a short boat excursion departing from Praia Dona Ana in Lagos, and you can view the spectacular rock formations and grottoes of the ‘Ponta da Piedade’.
Further along the coast from Alvor, you can visit coves and hidden beaches tucked away beneath dramatic cliffs. Meia Praia, reaching towards Lagos, is one of the longest stretches of beach in the Algarve, with 4km of fine white sand. The beach has many bars and is popular with surfers. Praia da Luz is a large sandy bay further along the coast with excellent facilities for families and water sports enthusiasts.
The area offers plenty of inland entertainment with golf, tennis and horse-riding just some of the activities available. Particularly suitable for children and teenagers, the Slide and Splash water park at Estobar, east of Lagoa and Aqualand, half and hour away, will provide hours of energetic fun.
Very organised and great property
Beach was great - big and sandy with jet skis and pedalos, bar. Alvor - good family resort. Good restaurants for all food types and budgets.
