Approach

Casa Lorenza is a pretty white-washed villa trimmed in pastel blue and with vibrant dark blue shutters. Situated on varying levels there are small sets of stairs here and there both inside and outside and little nooks adding interest. The open-plan living space has beautiful beamed ceilings and patio doors open to the large sun-filled pool terrace and covered barbecue kitchen.
The villa is set in the lush, green area of Funchal Ridge; a sought-after hillside dotted with individual villas and with a location near both the sandy coast and Lagos city. A road winds up through trees and lawns and a small driveway turns off to the right and up to Casa Lorenza.

Ground Floor

The large open-plan living space is nicely furnished and features three different areas. The high ceilings are covered in attractive wooden beams and here there are the same white walls and patterned, tiled floors that run throughout. A cosy sitting room features a large fireplace with wood-burner, sofas and armchairs, coffee table and a large dresser with wall mirror. There is a ceiling fan to stir up a cool breeze in the summer months. An archway leads to a small staircase and up to one of the bedrooms, whilst around the corner another small staircase leads to a different bedroom. The living room space opens out to a dining area with a large oval table and chairs for six. Two sets of patio doors open either side of one corner of the pool terrace.
Adjacent is the open-plan, attractive kitchen separated by a tall bar unit. This rustic but modern kitchen is fully-equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, fridge/freezer and oven/hob.

Outside

Doors open by the kitchen, out to the barbecue kitchen, set beneath a shaded roof to one side of the pool terrace. Here there is a built-in barbecue area

The large grounds that surround the villa and pool include green lawns, tall spiky palms and many fruit trees. There’s plenty of room to wander around and enjoy the views stretching towards Lagos.

Casa Lorenza is situated in the sought-after area of Funchal Ridge; a lush, green hillside where peaceful scenery is dotted with individual villas. This location is also very well placed for easy access to both Lagos city and the golden shores of Praia da Luz.

A local restaurant is only 1km away and there are several golf courses within a 30-minute drive; the nearest is Boavista, about 5km away.

2km away is the historic maritime city of Lagos. This relaxed and charming city offers a great selection of restaurants; the biggest concentration of which is found in the pedestrianised street. Lined with open-air cafes, the main square of Praça da Republica is the best place to indulge in a cool drink and a spot of people watching. There are often lots of street entertainers as well; everything from magicians to clowns and living statues.
Proud of its history, Lagos played an important part in the Age of Discovery and Henry the Navigator had his ships built here. It was also home to some of the earliest slave markets. Its rich, long history ensures that there are plenty of buildings and historic sites worth visiting; the governor’s castle and the church of St Sebastian being two of them.

The beach at Luz is only 3km away; this popular fishing port retains much of its traditional charm but also has a bustling cosmopolitan atmosphere. Its beach ‘Praia da Luz’ is one of the Algarve’s finest with fine, white sands and warm turquoise waters. It is well served by a few beachside cafes and water sports are on offer in summer. Its colourful sandstone cliffs provide beautiful cliff-top walks and at one end are the locally renowned ‘rocha negra’ or black rocks; evidence of ancient volcanic activity.

• Lagos Zoo: set in lovely landscaped gardens with exotic plants, this zoo contains 250 different animals and offers the chance to get close to a variety of species. There is an educational farm, souvenir shop and restaurant. Located between Sao Joao and Bensafrim.
• Slide and Splash: one of Europe’s biggest water parks that aims to keep you busy for a whole day with is range of plunging and gentle slides, swimming pools and a lazy rubber ring river. Approx 25km away near Lagoa.
