Location
Casa Quina is on the elegant residential estate of Serra e Mar, which is approximately 8km from the beach and town of Alvor. Golfers appreciate the proximity of the the Meridien/Penina golf course which is only 4km away – the grandfather of courses in the Algarve, this one was designed by Henry Cotton and is still a favourite with fans of the sport. Also close by are a restaurant which, at 1.5km, is within easy walking distance home after a glass or two of wine. A choice of local shops and supermarkets can be found a short drive away at Alvor.
Alvor is an ancient coastal town which was originally a fishing village, and evidence of its past can be found in the narrow streets and old harbour. Possibly founded by the Carthaginians, the town definitely has a Roman heritage, but most of the old buildings were destroyed during 16th and 18th century earthquakes. Only the 16th century parish church remains, with its splendid front door.
Nowadays the town is a happy resort, bubbling with lazy energy, and offers a selection of good restaurants and bars for you to choose from. Down by the water’s edge there are a number of fine fish restaurants, but there is a smattering of international restaurants too. The beach here is wide and sandy and popular with beach-lovers of all ages. Families enjoy the gently shelving sand and good facilities, others take advantage of the water sports on offer. For those seeking a little more seclusion, there are also a number of pretty coves tucked into the cliffs.
For those requiring a little more choice, the shops of Portimao are only a short drive, and the commercial centre there is famous for its low cost good quality shoes. You will also find a hypermarket and a cinema complex.
