Location
Casa Versao is situated on Funchal Ridge, an exclusive development 5km from historical Lagos. One of the best locations in the Algarve, Funchal Ridge is an exclusive development of smart villas set in lush gardens with sea views. Enjoying uninterrupted rural tranquility, the villa is 2.5km from the nearest restaurant and 3km from the nearest supermarket. Praia da Luz, a beautiful sandy beach popular with families, is just 4km away.
Luz is a popular fishing port that retains much of its traditional charm but also has a bustling cosmopolitan atmosphere. Its beach, Praia da Luz, is one of the Algarve's finest with fine, white sands and warm turquoise waters. It is well served by a few beachside cafes and water sports are on offer in summer. Its colourful sandstone cliffs provide beautiful cliff-top walks and at one end are the locally renowned 'rocha negra' or black rocks; evidence of ancient volcanic activity.
5km away is the historic maritime city of Lagos. This relaxed and charming city offers a great selection of restaurants, most of which are found in the pedestrianised street. Lined with open-air cafes, the main square of Praca da Republica is the best place to indulge in a cool drink and a spot of people watching. There are often lots of street entertainers as well; everything from magicians to clowns and living statues.
Proud of its history, Lagos played an important part in the Age of Discovery and Henry the Navigator had his ships built here. It was also home to some of the earliest slave markets. Its rich, long history ensures that there are plenty of buildings and historic sites worth visiting; the governor's castle and the church of St Sebastian being two of them.

In Detail
Approach
Casa Versao is located on Funchal Ridge, a small development of luxury villas set in their own grounds with lovely sea views. A private driveway leads to Casa Versao, with parking space outside. The villa itself is beautifully designed, with wide archways across a veranda that is covered in flowering bougainvillea. Steps lead up to the front door, which is built into an attractive turret.
Ground Floor
The front door opens to an entrance hall and stairs to the main level.
The bedrooms are located along a hallway. All the bedrooms are comfortably furnished, and have French windows that open onto the lower terrace - perfect for greeting the morning sunshine and enjoying the warm breeze at night. The master bedroom with its traditional hand painted mural in blue and white tiles has twin beds, twin nightstands, fitted wardrobes and an en suite bathroom. The three other twin bedrooms are all decorated in soft colours, with cosy pine beds and fitted wardrobes. The twin bedrooms share the use of two full bathrooms.
First Floor
The staircase is within a turret which opens to the inviting living and dining room.
On the left of the room is the light and airy living area, which looks out across the countryside through French windows that open to the partly covered upper terrace. Throw these open to enjoy a fresh sea breeze throughout the room. In the centre is a beautiful stone fireplace, with cushioned cane furniture arranged around it. You will also find a TV with satellite channels, DVD player and CD stereo, ideal for restful moments indoors.
On the right is the dining area, with a glass-topped dining table to seat eight. From here, the nearest French window opens to an al fresco dining area on the terrace, with an attractive hand decorated tiled table and chairs looking out across stunning countryside views to the sea beyond. The dining area leads through a large open archway to the kitchen. Spacious and fully equipped, the kitchen has a hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a breakfast bar, and beautiful hand-painted tiles along the wall.
Outside
From several rooms you can step out onto the shaded veranda, which looks out over the pool area and across the verdant countryside to the sea. The veranda has a barbeque area with a fridge. Beside it is a comfortable table and chairs for leisurely al fresco dining. Taking in the beautiful views from the veranda while supper sizzles on the grill is a pleasure you’re sure to remember.
From the lower terrace, steps lead down to the pool terrace which is surrounded by leafy green trees and flowering shrubs for privacy. There are sunloungers and parasols around the tear-drop pool, and steps into the shallow end for easy access. Lazing by the pool you can hear the sound of birdsong and crickets, and little else.
Surrounding the villa are lush gardens with pathways that lead you through herbaceous flowerbeds. There are plenty of quiet, shady places for the children to explore, or for you to escape to with a good book.
Additional Information
Pool heating available - supplement £150 per week (April to October). In March and November an extra charge of £130 per week applies.
