Moinho do Vento is situated in beautiful countryside, just 1km outside of Loulé. The villa enjoys an elevated position overlooking a green valley, and so the nearest amenities are best reached by car. There are several beaches along the coastline to the south, the nearest being the golden sands of Vale do Lobo. Golf enthusiast will be pleased to know that there are two 36-hole courses within 10km, one at Vale do Lobo and the other at Quinta do Lago.


The pretty town of Loulé is home to traditional cobbled pathways and small shops where local craftsmen make their wares. Every Saturday there is a lively market where stalls fill the square with fresh local goods and the handicrafts. A few walls remain among the beautiful ruins of a 12th century Arab castle, which stand side-by-side with Loulé’s modern buildings. Every Saturday, the streets become crowded for the town’s popular weekly market.

Santa Barbara da Nexe is 6km from Loulé. It is a traditional village of whitewashed houses which has retained much of its unspoilt charm. Set amongst green hills, it overlooks a landscape full of fruit groves and farmsteads. The villages most prominent and renowned landmark is the 400-year old church with its tall bell tower. There is also a hill fort that dates back to the Bronze Age, proving that Santa Barbara has a long, rich history. The women still undertake the traditional craft of weaving great palm leaves to make baskets, mats and hats.

Driving 10km west (towards Faro) you will find the popular resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta da Lago; both have sandy beaches and a world-class golf course. The Algarve capital of Faro is home to a spectacular coastline where sandbanks, islands and miles of dune intermingle across the low waters of the Atlantic Ocean. This area is a natural park; protected for its environmental importance but the sandy beaches are open to all who wish to build sandcastles, and splash in the warm, shallow waters.

Approach

Moinho do Vento is located overlooking a green valley, along the road from Loulé to Santa Barbara da Nexe. From the road, a driveway leads to a gravel parking space outside the villa.

Ground Floor

The front door opens to an entrance hall, which leads through to the spacious living and dining room. The room has a fresh, airy feel, with gleaming white walls and smooth marble floors. On the right is a corner fireplace, with comfortable cane furniture arranged around it. Well-placed lamps and potted plants create a welcoming, homely feel, along with satellite TV for quiet moments indoors. From here, patio doors open to a covered terrace that is furnished for al fresco dining.

On the left of the room, two steps lead up to the dining area where you’ll find a glass-topped cane dining table that seats eight. From the hallway you enter the homely kitchen with breakfast area. Fully equipped, the kitchen has a hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Down the hallway are three bedrooms, all comfortably furnished with twin beds, fitted wardrobe and en suite bathroom. There is also a guest cloakroom for convenience.

First Floor

Upstairs is the spacious master bedroom, furnished with a queen-sized bed, twin nightstands and fitted wardrobes. The master bedroom also has an en suite bathroom, and doors to a private balcony terrace – the ideal place to sip your morning coffee and take in the views of the leafy valley below.

Outside

From the living and dining room, patio doors lead out to a covered veranda. Comfortably furnished, the veranda is perfect for al fresco dining, especially on balmy evenings when you can enjoy dramatic sunsets over the green hills. The stone barbeque is located on the pool terrace, and is ideal for easy family meals.

Steps lead down from the veranda to the pool terrace, which also enjoys the spectacular view. The large pool measures 12m by 6m, and is large enough for the whole family to splash around in. There is also a poolside shower so that you can rinse off before stretching out in the sunshine. Surrounding the pool terrace are lush, grassy lawns bordered by thick hedges. Moinho do Vento also has its own tennis court, perfect for energetic families. Who will win - the kids or the parents?
