Location
Monte Areias is situated amidst acres of its own private countryside and woodland, 15km from the town of Carvoeiro and 3km from the beach resort of Armacão de Pera.
Armacao de Pera is a popular resort and quite busy in high season, but it is a sandy stretch of beach with plenty of room for everyone. The long shoreline is perfect for lazy walks with your toes in the ocean. The resort has quite a few high-rise apartments and the upside to this is a vast variety of bars, shops and cafes, providing lively nightlife and amenities close by.
Carvoeiro was once a quiet fishing village but has steadily grown throughout the years to incorporate the flourishing tourist trade. The streets are lined with many shops, bars and restaurants. The sandy beach offers a selection of water sports in the summer. Although now a bustling town, the essence of the sleepy village still remains through the local fisherman who sail the seas and bring home their catches, sorting them in the harbour. A stroll around the older streets of the town will lead you through quaint shops selling local crafts and market stalls selling fresh local goods.
For those with kids, good family attractions nearby include…
• Aqualand water park – plenty of slides and flumes to scream your way down and lazy rapids where you can float along in rubber rings. Buses run from Armacao de Pera, or by car it is approx. 10km away
• Krazy World – a family attractions site with a small zoo that has live animal shows throughout the summer and aims to inspire children about conservation. There is also a petting zoo (with camels and llamas!), pony rides and mini-golf so there’s enough to keep the whole family occupied for a day. Approx. 20km away
• ZooMarine – an ocean theme park set amongst lakes and gardens with exhibitions, shows and rides to entertain the whole family. Has a large range of marine animals from sea lions and dolphins to turtles and exotic birds. Approx 20km away

In Detail
Approach
The Monte Areias estate spans several acres of private countryside and woodland, with a large variety of activities and areas to explore. This restored villa has been lovingly decorated with traditional, farmhouse-style furniture such as large distressed-wood dressers and rows of hanging pots and pans. An extensive sweeping gravel driveway leads along the front the villa. You walk under the large covered terrace at the front of the villa to the main front door, and into the entrance hall.
Ground Floor
The entrance hall has a large wooden dresser and small round table with four chairs. It opens left to the living room and right to the bedroom hallway. Throughout, the white walls are decorated with framed prints, and lights hang from the high, beamed ceilings.
The living area has four parts – there is a wide open corridor with a large sofa and little tables and desks either side. A family room with a wood burning stove, large side cabinet, three armchairs, a sofa, hexagonal coffee table and a small cabinet holding the TV/DVD/Video and CD Player. From the end of the wide corridor, a small set of stairs with iron banisters leads you down into the open-plan kitchen and dining room.
The dining room has a large side cabinet, and a polished wooden table and eight chairs. Here there is an area of exposed wall with a recessed alcove, whose shelves are filled with ceramic pots.
The farmhouse kitchen has a long unit with rows of small wooden drawers below a fresh, white worktop. A long metal rail holds a variety of pots, pans and utensils. This traditional-style kitchen is well-equipped with modern appliances including a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. In addition, there is a very large free-standing fridge/freezer.
The hallway leading down to the bedrooms has a few steps within it. There are four bedrooms that are furnished with twin beds. Typically, these rooms have wooden bed frames, bedside cabinets, reading lamps, large wardrobes and sunny windows looking out to the beautiful gardens. Three of them have en-suite shower rooms and one has a lovely stone archway over the window.
The fifth bedroom is a children’s bedroom with a set of bunk beds along either wall, and a chest of drawers in the middle. The wooden bunk beds have upright, fixed ladders and the room is decorated with bright, fun furnishings with a beach theme.
At the end of the hallway is a family bathroom with a full bathtub, and a door opens into a lobby. From the lobby two stairs down take you to the chapel entrance. The chapel has a high, circular window and double doors opening to the front of the house
Outside
To the front of the villa is a long, wide terrace covered with a wooden trellis and shady bamboo. Around the terrace are pots of colourful flowers, tall, spiky palms and leafy climbing plants weaving up the terrace pillars. The terrace is well equipped with wooden garden seating and hammocks – ideal for relaxing in with a good book.
The private kidney-shaped pool has ladder access at the deep end. and in the shallow end there is integral seating and bubbling massage jets. A very large sun terrace surrounds the pool where there are sunloungers and fixed bamboo parasols, for sunbathing and shaded reading. For night-time, the swimming pool has underwater lights which illuminate the water and make it safe and inviting to swim after dark.
Throughout the grounds there are mature trees and leafy shrubs, laden fruit-trees and attractive rockeries.
