Casa Oliveira is located on the outskirts of the beautiful ancient town of Silves, just 2km from the city’s shops, restaurants and cafes.

The beautiful city of Silves, once a Moorish capital full of towering minarets, has an impressive cathedral and magnificent castle both built from red sandstone. The castle is the largest in the Algarve and has 11 towers. From its ramparts there are stunning views over the city and the river Arade. Its streets are lined with an abundance of shops, restaurants and cafes and there are plenty of squares and churches to stroll around and explore.

Lagoa 8km away is a fairly typical, small provincial town and not a particular tourist trap. However, it is well-known for its winery, the most productive in the Algarve which uses grapes grown within the countryside outside the town. If you pre-arrange a visit you can go to for a tour of the winery to see how the wine is made and have a little taste of the finished product.

The nearest golf course is 10km away, 2km south of Lagoa; Gramacho is a double 9-hole course where you play the same course twice but with alternate tees and greens.

For those with kids, good family attractions nearby include…
• Aqualand Water Park – plenty of slides and flumes to scream your way down and lazy rapids where you can float along in rubber rings. Buses run from Armacao de Pera, or by car it is approx. 15km away
• Krazy World – a family attractions site with a small zoo that has live animal shows throughout the summer and aims to inspire children about conservation. There is also a petting zoo (with camels and llamas!), pony rides and mini-golf so there’s enough to keep the whole family occupied for a day. Approx. 20km away
• ZooMarine – an ocean theme park set amongst lakes and gardens with exhibitions, shows and rides to entertain the whole family. Has a large range of marine animals from sea lions and dolphins to turtles and exotic birds. Approx 26km away

Approach

A stone wall and thick green hedge screen this tall, attractive villa from the road. Passing through a small white gate, you walk up a path to the front door, beneath an arched porchway. The door opens into the entrance hall on the ground floor.

Ground Floor

From the entrance hall, a corridor opens into the living/dining room. The cosy sitting area has a cream leather sofa and matching armchair, as well as a coffee table, widescreen television and an attractive rocking chair with matching footrest.
The kitchen has a row of base and eye-level dark wood units with integral dishwasher and double sink. Ii is well-equipped with a washing machine, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee machine. This spacious room also has a breakfast table and six chairs, and a door opening to the garden.
The elegant dining area has a polished wooden table and six chairs by a sunny window. To the side is a dresser and large mirror, and a light with double lamp-shades hangs above for soft lighting. Also at this end of the room is a large wood-burning stove in one corner, a cosy luxury for those visiting in the cooler winter months.
There is one bedroom on the ground floor; this is a double bedroom with a free-standing wardrobe. Adjacent is a tiled shower room.

First Floor

A staircase leads you to the first floor and the remaining bedrooms. The first has a double bed, fitted wardrobes and doors that open on to a small balcony - a nice spot for a cup of tea first thing in the morning, as you watch the world go by. The last bedroom has twin beds and patio doors opening onto another small balcony. These bedrooms share the use of a separate family bathroom.
From the landing, a door opens on to a large terraced balcony where you can enjoy a glass of wine as you watch the sunset.

Outside

The beautiful, well-kept gardens at Casa Oliveira are full of flowering shrubs, mature trees, and spiky palms. There is a lovely ornamental pond, green lawns, and a children’s swing set with climbing frame. Double sets of stairs lead up to the raised part of the garden and large pool terrace. The private pool has ladder access, is surrounded by tiling and lawn, and bordered by hedges. To the right of the pool is a large gazebo covering a small terrace and built-in barbecue - perfect for al fresco family meals cooked fresh on the sizzling grill.
