The Quinta do Paraiso resort is situated on huge grounds upon a plateau about 1.5km from Carvoeiro. The well-kept gardens surrounding the villa are full of fragrant pines, palms and native trees such as figs, olives and almonds.

Carvoeiro, about 1.5km away (or a 10-minute walk) was once a sleepy fishing village that has grown steadily throughout recent years to incorporate the flourishing tourist trade. Its streets are lined with shops, bars and restaurants and market stalls selling fresh, local goods. Its sandy beach is very popular and offers water sports in high season, but is quite small and can become crowded. Although a bustling place in summer, the essence of the picturesque village still remains as the village has sprawled outwards and not upwards. And the local fisherman still sail the seas in colourful boats, bringing home their daily catches and sorting them in the harbour.

The nearby Praia do Paraiso (about 1km) has a small sandy beach sheltered on either side by small cliffs, there are 115 well-maintained steps down to the shore.

. Aqualand Water Park - Located about 12km away in Alcantarilha, this water park has plenty of slides and flumes to scream your way down and rapids where you can float along in rubber rings.

. ZooMarine - an ocean theme park set amongst lakes and gardens with exhibitions, shows and rides to entertain the whole family. Has a large range of marine animals from sea lions and dolphins to turtles and exotic birds. Approx 18km away in guia, near Albufeira.

. Krazy World - a family attractions site with a small zoo that has live animal shows throughout the summer and aims to inspire children about conservation. There is also a petting zoo (with camels and llamas!), pony rides and mini-golf so there's enough to keep the whole family occupied for a day. Approx. 25km away in Algoz.

Ground Floor

The villa is decorated throughout with white walls and flagstone floors which feel cool underfoot even in summer. The open-plan living and dining room has a cosy sitting room with sofas, armchairs and a coffee table arranged around an open fireplace. There is a dining table and four chairs, and glass patio doors open to a shaded terrace.

The modern and well-equipped kitchen has rows of wooden units at base level, topped with a granite worktop. As well as in integral sink and oven/hob the kitchen has a kettle, toaster, microwave and free-standing fridge/freezer.

A corridor leads to the bedrooms and the separate tiled bathroom with a full bathtub, over-bath shower, toilet, twin washbasin and large shaving mirror. The master bedroom has twin beds, fitted wardrobes and bedside cabinets with small reading lamps. Patio doors slide open on to the garden; leave these ajar at night and allow in the cooling breeze and cicada song. The second bedroom also has twin beds and is similarly furnished; a curtained window overlooks the pretty green gardens.

Outside

The green gardens are well secluded by hedges and mature trees. Lush lawns surround the villa and a small paved path leads form the front driveway area to the shaded terrace at the back. Patio doors open from the living room to a shaded terrace where pink-flowering climbing plants weave across the supports. Here you will find a built-n barbecue and garden furniture; an ideal setting for family meals cooked fresh on the sizzling grill.

An external staircase curves up and around to the roof terrace above the villa, from here there are views over the surrounding area to the distant blue horizon above the sea. You could relax here with a glass of wine and watch as the sun goes down.

For example, some villas have a washing machine and/or dishwasher. We will be happy to request these for you. Maid service is 5 times per week, linen change once a week, towel change twice a week.

Fans can be rented from reception at a supplement of E10 per week. Safes can also be rented at reception.

The Quinta do Paraiso resort has several bars and two restaurants; one is an Italian restaurant serving pizza, pasta and Portuguese dishes.

The resort has three large swimming pools and 2 children's pools; safe for the kids to splash about in. The huge main pool has a poolside snack bar.

There are three tennis courts, which can be booked at reception (along with racquets and balls). There is also a 18-hole mini-golf course, table tennis, beach volleyball court, French bowls and a play area for children with climbing frames.

'Clube Q' - the children's club, provides sports and entertainment activities for children from 4 to 12 years old.

'Diver's Cove' - a nearby diving centre, has an excellent reputation and has recently been awarded the PADI Gold Award. It offers various diving training programs from beginner to expert, and has its own boat to take clients out to discover the underwater treasures of the Atlantic Ocean. The centre organises a diving session in the resort pool once a week for anyone interested taking a first step.
