This gated family villa is laid out over three floors. The kitchen, dining room and lounge are open plan. The five bedrooms are divided over the ground and upper floors.

Approach

Having enjoyed your drive through winding, shady lanes that lead to the family villa, close the gate behind you, park the car and begin the exploration of your holiday home.

Ground Floor

This apricot and white painted villa with distinctive porthole windows is set in an elevated position on a hill and commands scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
A short flight of steps lead up to a fine carved front door. This opens directly into the spacious air-conditioned open plan living area. The floors are tiled and cool to the feet, the walls are painted in a soft pastel shade and there are comfortable sofas arranged around the fireplace built from a local, soft rose stone. Patio doors open out onto to the terrace and garden.

A breakfast bar divides the fully fitted modern American style kitchen from the dining/living room space. The living area provides a cool restful place when the sun is at its most fierce. After an energetic morning in the pool, the children might like to sit quietly after lunch and watch their favourite DVD or listen to a CD. Parents might welcome the opportunity to close their eyes and indulge in a short siesta before taking a trip to the nearest sandy beach at Platanes only 3km away.

There are two twin bedrooms on this level and they can be accessed from an inner hall. A separate, full bathroom is available to the occupants of these rooms.

First Floor

The master suite with en-suite bathroom features a Jacuzzi bath. Patio doors lead on to a large terrace where clients can sit and relax after a busy day in the sun and turn their minds to the evening stretching before them.

The double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. A twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room has patio doors leading on to a terrace and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

Outside

The immaculate gardens of Villa Athina have lawns, terraces and beds planted with flowers and shrubs. Relax on sun-loungers set beside the circular swimming pool (with integrated steps) or take a leisurely swim. Float on your back and look up at the hills and distant mountains. In the evening, prepare a Greek salad from fresh locally grown vegetables. Heat the barbeque and place your marinated kebabs over the heat, enjoy a glass of chilled local wine while your senses enjoy the delicious smells drifting up on to the gentle night air.

Location

This family villa is ideally situated being only 3km from the sandy beach of Platanes and located midway along the island of Crete which is ideal if you are planning to visit many of the famous historical sites; the Palace of Knossos, the Monastery of Arkadi, the Preveli Palm Beach and the old historical town of Rethymnon.

Rethymnon is 10km distant, a 10-15 minute drive by car. This lively, ancient city shows architectural evidence of earlier occupation by the Venetians and the Turks. If you enjoy a walk, make your way to the old Venetian fortress set above the town and enjoy the views to be had from its ancient walls.

After a morning spent on one of Rethymnon’s long sandy beach you might like to explore the boutiques to be found in the little alleyways surrounding the ancient harbour. Make your way through the ancient alleyways of the old quarter to the harbour browsing in the many boutiques and shops as you go. Find a taverna overlooking the harbour and enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine over a long, lazy lunch. For that special evening out you might want to dine in one of the many restaurants to be found in Rethymnon.
