Cala Galdana, about half and hour to the east, is one of the most ecologically important coves on the island and is also reputedly one of the most beautiful. The deep horseshoe bay with its sloping sandy beach is backed by high limestone cliffs. Nestled in the pine trees behind the beach is a bar/ restaurant and parking is available nearby. Boat tours can be arranged locally so that you can explore the coastline’s hidden coves and inlets, or you can simply spend time sunbathing on the sand and cooling off in the calm turquoise water. Mahon is built around the world’s second deepest natural harbour and this remains the heart of the city with streams of cargo ships and boats sailing to and from Menorca.
