Villa Belinda is located in a pleasant residential part of Cap d’Artrutx in the resort of Cala en Bosch, just a short stroll from local amenities. The small beach at Cap d’Artrutx is within easy walking distance and the main Cala en Bosch beach can be found a little further on. The local marina has become very fashionable and you can dine here in one of the restaurants whilst watching the yachts and cruisers come and go. A lighthouse, built in 1859, stands just off the coast and marks the most south-westerly point of Menorca.
Cala en Bosch is a lively and cosmopolitan resort with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, many offering the region’s speciality, seafood paella. The coastline in this area has many beautiful horseshoe-shaped bays and coves, all with white sand and clear blue water and offering plentiful opportunities for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling. Boat trips will take you to explore secret coves which are totally inaccessible by land, or you can go on a longer fishing expedition. The resort has its own aqua park, Water Rock, which children will love, and they may also enjoy a ride on the mini-train that runs to and from the resort during the day, connecting the centre with Son Xoriguer to the east. This quieter neighbouring resort has twin beaches and a water-sports centre where you can hire windsurfers and arrange water-skiing, parasailing and scuba-diving courses.
The former capital of the island, Ciutadella, is around 12km away and is still considered to be one of the west coast of Menorca’s biggests attractions, being the main cultural and religious centre of the island. The town’s architecture reflects its colourful history, as past invaders of Menorca have all left their mark. A 17th century fort houses the Museu Municipal with its collection of artefacts including 3,000 year old bone knives, ancient spears, jewellery and Roman coins. Or simply explore the quaint old town with its narrow streets and alleyways, stopping for a cup of coffee at one of the many pavement cafes to enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere. The beautiful city square is considered to be one of Spain’s finest.
30 kilometres to the east and surrounded by the dramatic rocky landscape of the Algendar Gorge, is the town of Cala Galdana. Situated in an extremely scenic part of the Menorcan coastline, the glorious bay here has a beautiful white sandy beach nestling under towering limestone cliffs above. Known as the ‘Queen of the Calas’, the here beach is popular for snorkelling, scuba diving and swimming, or you can explore this stretch of coastline at a leisurely pace on foot or by bicycle. Menorca is fantastic for walkers and the inland countryside is dotted with fragrant pine woods, tranquil valleys and beautiful flower meadows
The capital city of Mahon is around an hour’s drive away on the eastern side of Menorca. Take a boat from the harbour, which is the second deepest natural harbour in the world, to explore the surrounding coast and learn about the area’s colourful history. The city itself offers plenty of places of interest and a large selection of bars, restaurant and shops. Nightlife here centres around the main port and you can enjoy live music with the bustling harbour as a scenic backdrop.
