Villa Bonnie is located in a pleasant residential part of Cap d’Artrutx in the resort of Cala’n Bosch, just a short stroll from local amenities and also within walking distance of the beach and harbour. The fashionable marina here has a variety of bars and restaurants with views across the water to the 19th century lighthouse just off the coast.
Cala en Bosch is a lively and cosmopolitan resort with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, many offering the region’s speciality, seafood paella. The south western coast of Menorca has a host of beautiful horseshoe-shaped bays and coves, all with white sand and clear blue water so you will be spoilt for choice as far as beaches are concerned. Activities on offer locally include sunbathing, swimming, boat trips and snorkelling. Many of the best beaches are only accessible by boat and you can also go further afield on a fishing expedition. For children, the resort has its own aqua park, Water Rock, and also a mini train that connects the centre with the quieter neighbouring resort of Son Xoriguer to the east. This area has a water sports centre with windsurfing equipment for hire and opportunities to try water ski-ing, parasailing and scuba diving.
The lovely harbour town of Ciutadella is around 12km away and although no longer the capital, is still considered to be one of Menorca’s biggest attractions, being the main cultural and religious centre of the island. The town’s architecture reflects its colourful history, as past invaders of Menorca have all left their mark. A 17th century fort houses the Museu Municipal with its collection of artefacts including 3,000 year old bone knives, ancient spears, jewellery and Roman coins and there are a number of other museums and buildings to visit. The town has quaint narrow streets and cobbled alleyways lined with chic pavement cafes and bars with a beautiful square in the centre which hosts a colourful market on Fridays and Saturdays. Plenty of shopping is available at other times in the town’s varied selection of boutiques and stores.
Mahon is the official capital city of Menorca, known locally as Maó. The city is 50 kilometres from the resort, on the eastern side of Menorca, and is home to the world’s second deepest natural harbour. The historical port creates a scenic backdrop to the main hub of the city. There are plenty of places of interest here and many buildings of architectural and historical importance to visit. The city is well known for its lively nightlife with an excellent selection of bars and clubs, including some featuring live music, centred around the port.
A thirty minute drive away and surrounded by the dramatic rocky landscape of the Algendar Gorge, is the town of Cala Galdana which has a stunning bay with white sand and clear blue water set beneath towering limestone cliffs. Known as the ‘Queen of the Calas’, the bay has a small restaurant nestled at the back of the beach amidst pine trees and is popular with swimmers and snorkellers. For those who enjoy exploring, Menorca with its beautifully rugged coastline and gently undulating inland scenery, is ideal for walkers. There are more ancient ruins here than on any other Mediterranean island and you will come across rock monoliths, prehistoric watchtowers and ancient burial chambers which are dotted around the countryside. The caves of Cap de Penyes are a fascinating labyrinth of prehistoric chambers and caves at Cales Coves, about 10 km west of Mahon.
