Location
Villa Caliente is situated in the seaside village of Binisafua, on the south-east coast of Menorca, close to the coastal resort of Binibeca. Binisafua itself has a quiet beach within a natural cove which is popular for snorkelling. The village also provides a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants which are conveniently within walking distance of the villa.
A short drive along the coast takes you to Binibeca. The two parts of this resort, Binibequer Vell and the more traditional Menorcan village of Binibequer Nou are connected by a beautiful sweep of shoreline and the beach of Cala de Binibeca. This large cove, sheltered by sand dunes, has fine white sand and a gentle gradient making it a favourite for families with young children. A beach hut bar provides refreshments and also offers bamboo parasols and sun-loungers for hire. Spend a day here lazing by the water’s edge, or if you are feeling energetic, try a game of tennis at the resort’s public tennis courts.
The island’s historical capital, Mahon, is just 10km from Villa Caliente and is home to the world’s second deepest natural harbour. From here you can take a boat tour or simply sit with a drink and enjoy the sights and sounds of the bustling port as ships and yachts come and go. You will also find places of architectural and historical interest, and several museums detailing the island’s long and celebrated history. The city itself offers a wide range of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, and has a lively array of nightlife. The largest concentration of busy clubs and bars can be found near the main port, and for those who enjoy live music, Mahon has a number of Jazz clubs.
Menorca has more ancient ruins than any other Mediterranean island and is an explorer’s dream. The taulas (massive T-shaped rock monoliths), the talyots (prehistoric watchtowers on the top of hills), and the navetas (prehistoric burial chambers), can be found all over the island. La Mola, the fortress at the north end of Mahon harbour, provides fine views of the eastern end of the island. The coastal cliffs and headlands around Menorca are dotted with ancient caves and remnants of prehistoric villages, notably the caves of Cap de Penyes and the labyrinth of over one hundred prehistoric chambers at Cales Coves, 10km west of Mahon. Dating from the 9th Century BC, this massive cave system was once used as a burial chamber and was a site of pagan rituals.

In Detail
Ground Floor
The interior of Villa Caliente is decorated simply with white walls and tiled floors throughout, and also benefits from air-conditioning, keeping it cool in the midday sun and at night. The living area is split level with three steps leading from the kitchen to the living room and dining area which is furnished with dark wood, traditional furnishings. Comfortable sofas are arranged cosily around the television which has some satellite channels and a DVD player, and patio doors open from here to the outdoor dining terrace next to the pool. The kitchen is well-equipped with an oven, hob and fridge-freezer and also has the useful addition of washing machine. A door takes you directly outside from the kitchen where you will find an enclosed washing line area.
The three bedrooms are all pleasantly furnished and fitted wardrobes and ceiling fans. There are two twin bedrooms along a hallway on the same level as the kitchen and these both share the use of a shower room with shower, WC and washbasin. The double bedroom has its own full en-suite bathroom.
Outside
Step through patio doors from the living area and you will find yourself on the shaded outdoor terrace. Set with a dining table and chairs, this area is perfect for a relaxed al fresco lunch by the pool, perhaps cooked on the built-in barbecue.
