Villa Walkthrough

Originally two houses, this villa has been converted into one spacious 3-bedroomed house with two living areas. The bedrooms are all on the first floor with access to one double bedroom and bathroom being via a separate staircase.

Ground Floor

The spacious open plan ground floor has tiled floors underfoot and a pleasant rustic feel with some exposed ceiling beams and unusual arched windows. The furniture is a mixture of dark wood and iron work but the whitewashed walls ensure the interior is light and welcoming. Due to the original layout of the building, there are two distinct living areas on the ground floor, both with access to the pool garden via patio doors. The main room has a well-furnished sitting area and a dining table with seating for six. The neat open-plan kitchen has large windows to the front of the property and is fitted with pine units. There is a double stainless steel sink and appliances include a dishwasher and microwave and the washing machine is tucked away under the stairs. The other living area is arranged as a TV room and has a large fireplace and a wooden framed sofa.

First Floor

The first double bedroom is reached via a separate staircase. It has a wooden floor and a lovely wrought iron double bed with bedside tables and lamps on each side. Patio doors lead to a first floor balcony. There is a separate bathroom with a bath and overbath shower, WC and washbasin.

Two further bedrooms are accessed via a different staircase. The rooms are nicely furnished in a similar style, one having twin beds and the other a double. Both bedrooms share a bathroom located on this floor and have patio doors to another balcony.

Outside

The main garden area is behind the villa and is edged with trellis fencing and pretty climbing plants. There is a low wall and wooden railings at the back of the terrace over which you have far reaching views to the sea. The attractive, partly raised sun terrace has a lovely oval-shaped swimming pool (depth 1.4m throughout) in the centre and is equipped with sun-loungers and parasols. The pergola covered dining terrace is on a slightly lower level beside the villa and has a wooden table and chairs by the patio doors.

Location

This holiday villa has an elevated rural location just outside the village of Megala Horafia overlooking Souda Bay. There is a mini-market and several village square tavernas just a short stroll from the villa with the much larger resort of Chania only eight kilometres eastwards along the coast. Neighbouring Villa Stratos is also available to rent which is convenient for two families or large parties travelling together. The large stretch of sand that borders the southern side of Souda bay is only 4km away. Souda bay stretches between the northern coast of Crete and a large headland above this which is joined to the mainland around the city of Chania.

Western Crete is a beautiful mountainous region dominated by the White Mountains or Lefka Ori which peak at 2500km and fall dramatically to the sea in the south with deep gorges attracting scores of hikers.
Chania is one of the oldest inhabited cities is the world and has existed for at least 5000 years. Conquered by the Venetians, the Turks and then the Germans during the Second World War, its architecture is interested and varied. The ‘Agora’ is a large cross shaped covered market selling fresh local produce and the old town has a labyrinth of narrow streets and historical landmarks. The Archaeological Museum and the Maritime museum are worth a visit if you are interested in history and local culture. Backed by the White Mountains, the array of cafes and tavernas near the waterfront are a great place to relax with a cup of coffee or an iced drink. The inner harbour area has numerous bars and restaurants and between July and September there is an arts festival with various events and classical music.
At Limnoupolis, 8km from Chania, there is a water amusement park and an exotic artificial river in Western Crete.
