Villa Dana has accommodation on three floors, with the main living room area on the ground floor which is reached by steps at the front of the villa. There are bedrooms and bathrooms on each level, the lower ground floor also having a kitchenette.

Ground Floor

The villa has an open plan living area which is light and airy with cool floor tiles underfoot, red chiffron drapes at the windows, and lots of greenery in terracotta pots. Sofas are positioned around a coffee table in front of the patio doors to the terrace, with a television offering some satellite channels and a DVD player. There is a formal dining area with a large glass topped cane table and upholstered chairs for up to eight people.

The sunny kitchen, just off the living area, has fitted white units and is well-equipped with a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine as well as an oven, hob and fridge/freezer. There is a convenient breakfast table in here with seating for four and also access to a lovely covered dining terrace so you can easily take your lunch or a cup of coffee outside and admire the great views.

There are two bedrooms with en suite facilities on this floor, both opening off the living area with the same tiled flooring and each having independent access to the terrace. The twin room has pretty pine furniture with a bedside table, lamp and a low chest of drawers. A door leads to the bedroom’s en suite shower room which has a shower, WC and washbasin. Decorated in a more contemporary style, the second bedroom has a double bed, fitted wardrobes and an en suite bathroom with bath, WC and washbasin. There is also a separate guest shower room.

First Floor

An attractive marble staircase leads up to a small first floor sitting area which has canvas chairs and a large squashy sofa set in front of the patio doors which lead out to the huge first floor balcony with superb sea and countryside views. Two further bedrooms can be found up here, one stylishly furnished in walnut and one in pine, but both having double beds, luxurious en suite shower rooms and patio doors to the terrace.

Basement

Lower Ground Floor
This floor has a self contained apartment with a sitting room and kitchenette, one twin bedroom and en suite shower room. Patio doors lead out to the barbecue terrace so the kitchen area may come in handy when you are preparing food to cook outside.

Outside

With its glorious countryside location, this holiday villa with private pool is ideal for people who love the great outdoors. The two large balconies overlook the pool garden and have patio furniture so you can relax in the shade or sunshine and enjoy the countryside views. The first floor balcony, with its views to the sea and Chania in the distance, is the perfect place to enjoy an iced drink before dinner.

Marble steps with a white stone balustrade lead down from the upper ground floor level to a pathway which runs alongside the lawn to the pool terrace. The 40sq m private swimming pool has ladder steps at both ends and is surrounded by a paved terrace with ample space for sun bathing on the sun-loungers provided. There are parasols for shade and pretty plants in pots.

Location

Villa Dana is quietly located in a rural area close to the small rustic village of Prines, yet only 7km from the extensive facilities on offer in the city of Rethymnon. Ideally suited to a those looking for an idyllic ‘away from it all’ holiday, the villa is not too isolated as there is a neighbouring property, Villa Deleni, with local shops and a couple of tavernas just 1.5km away. The nearest beach is a short drive from the villa and offers a choice of water sports including parasailing, sailing, banana boat rides, jet ski-ing and water ski-ing. The surrounding area has pine woods and a dramatic sea gorge.

Rethymnon is a large modern city with a charming old town which gained its importance during the 16th and 17th century under Venetian rule. The old quarter is filled with narrow alleys and numerous Turkish houses and minarets reflecting the 250 years when it was ruled by the Turks. There is a Venetian Fortress built to defend the city against attacks by pirates and a picturesque old harbour lined with tavernas offering a great range of freshly caught seafood. The city has a long sandy beach stretching for over 20km which is very popular with holidaymakers throughout the summer season and well served by beachside bars and lively tavernas. In July/August, the city stages a Renaissance Festival and comes alive with folk music and traditional Greek dramas.. Sample locally produced wine in the public gardens during the Wine Festival and join in with the dancing if you are feeling energetic! At any time, Rethymnon has a lively nightlife based around its numerous music bars and dance clubs.

Crete is a beautiful island with wonderful opportunities for walkers at all times of year. It is possible to walk all day along the network of trails and paths across varied terrain. Some areas are quite challenging and there are various companies offering guided trails, details of which can be found at the Mountaineering Association in Rethymnon. There are many ancient monasteries and ruins to explore, with over 200 ancient burial chambers having been discovered at nearby Armeni, a Minoan necropolis around 9km from Retyhymnon. Lissos is an ancient town famous for its healing waters flowing from a natural spring, with a small Asklepios temple dedicated to the Greek-Roman God of healing. The most famous archaeological site on the island is the Minoan Palace of Knossos which is 5km from Herakion along the road to Archanes. According to legend, King Minos lived here and the place is associated with the Labyrinth of the Minotaur.

Children will love a trip on a ‘real’ pirate ship aboard the Captain Hook or Barbarossa which leave daily from Rethymnon harbour at 9.30am heading for Marthi and Bali respectively. Both ships depart on fun-packed voyages taking in caves and coves on the way. Alternatively, dolphin cruises set out on a quest to see these wonderful creatures and stop for a swim and lunch in a taverna at Panormo.
