Villa Eleftheria is on one level with the living area and large, outside terrace overlooking the pool and spectacular mountain views.

Approach

Villa Eleftheria is situated in the unspoilt, rural village of Pendamodi with breathtaking views over to the snow-topped White Mountains, standing tall against the sky.

Ground Floor

The villa has a spacious, open-plan living area with a cosy lounge, dining area and well-equipped kitchen. There are smooth, tiled floors and white walls with patches of exposed stonework. The ceilings are rendered white between thin wooden beams; these run lengthways in the lounge area and horizontally in the kitchen/dining area, providing a subtle separation. The lounge area has an open corner fireplace, traditional wooden armchairs, a sofa and a coffee table. On the opposite wall is the satellite television.
In the centre is a dining table to seat four, conveniently next to the open-plan kitchen. A set of glass patio doors lead out on to a large, covered balcony where there is another table and chairs for four. The terrace enjoys views of the undulating landscape, leading to the distant snow-capped White Mountains. This setting makes outdoor dining a picturesque experience. The open-plan kitchen is well-equipped with modern appliances including a microwave, dish washer and toaster.
The cool and comfortable bedrooms have wooden-framed windows, open these in the morning and breathe the fresh mountain air. The master bedroom has a double bed and a tiled en-suite bathroom with a separate shower cubicle. The second bedroom is furnished with twin beds and has the use of a family bathroom, where there is a washing machine.

Outside

Villa Eleftheria is set in naturally rocky hillside, enjoying unspoilt views across rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards. The garden is full of plants and flowering shrubs, and a paved pathway leads to the house. The property is enclosed by a natural wooden fence. A paved terrace and small, green lawns surround the pool. Here you can soak up the warm sun on a lounger. The covered dining terrace that adjoins the villa is a perfect place to enjoy freshly grilled food fresh from the barbecue.

Location

Villa Eleftheria is located in the friendly, sleepy village of Pendamodi which enjoys a rural setting and uninterrupted views over the rolling landscape. Yet, peace and beauty is only 15km away from the Heraklion, the capital city of Crete with beautiful sandy beaches and many tourist sights.

There is a taverna with a large, panoramic terrace just 150m away and the village of Pendamodi has a mini-market selling basic essentials, 1km away. The surrounding villages offer a selection of tavernas and restaurants, the nearest are in Petrokefalo, 3km away. The sandy beach of Amoudara lined with cafes and shops is 15km away.

Heraklion mixes historic architecture that has an eastern flavour, with modern, cosmopolitan cafes and boutiques. The older areas of town, including the harbour provide pleasant strolling grounds where you can watch the fisherman sort their catches and enjoy the cooling Aegean Sea breeze. Heraklion Archeological Museum houses collections of finds from across an incredible ten centuries, but the emphasis is on artifacts from the Minoan times, of which it has arguably the world’s richest selection.

Well worth a visit, is the archaeological site of the ancient Knossos Palace, about 12km away, south of Heraklion. This palatial ruin dates back as far as 2000-1350BC but was most importantly inhabited during the Minoan civilization when tradition states that it was home to King Minos, who placed the Minotaur in the labyrinth. The Knossos Palace site has been partially restored and there are copies of original frescoes and plenty of stunning architecture on display here.

Tílisos, only 8km away contains the beautiful ruins of three, simpler Minoan villas, much less imposing than the Knossos site but superbly excavated. Tílisos enjoy a more peaceful atmosphere and is a nice place to stroll around and soak up a flavour of Cretan history.

Scattered across the island are numerous museums and ruins galore as well as beautiful Byzantine churches, Ottoman mosques with towering spires and baroque, Venetian architecture. This is to say nothing of the varied and breathtaking landscape with natural, plunging gorges, rocky outcrops and clear springs. The island of Crete is brimming with beauty and spine-tingling ancient history just waiting to be explored.
