Villa Emily is located on the Boa Vista golf resort, 3km west of Lagos. The luxurious 260-acre resort is home to an 18-hole course set amongst umbrella pines, blossoming almond, fig, palm and olive trees, water hazards and carefully placed bunkers. The resort enjoys spectacular scenery and breathtaking views of the clear Atlantic Ocean. Other resort facilities include a sundeck with heated pool, children's play area, tennis courts, football pitches and a luxury health club with gym and spa. The resort also has a club house restaurant serving a variety of European dishes.
The nearest beach is at Luz, 3km to the west. Luz is a popular fishing port that retains much of its traditional charm but also has a bustling cosmopolitan atmosphere. Its beach, Praia da Luz, is one of the Algarve’s finest with fine, white sands and warm turquoise waters. It is well served by a few beachside cafes and water sports are on offer in summer. Its colourful sandstone cliffs provide beautiful cliff-top walks and at one end are the locally renowned ‘rocha negra’ or black rocks; evidence of ancient volcanic activity.
For dining and shopping, head east to the historic maritime city of Lagos. A short drive brings you to this relaxed and charming city, which offers a great selection of restaurants – most of which are found in the pedestrianised street. Lined with open-air cafes, the main square of Praca da Republica is the best place to indulge in a cool drink and a spot of people watching. There are often lots of street entertainers as well; everything from magicians to clowns and living statues. Proud of its history, Lagos played an important part in the Age of Discovery and Henry the Navigator had his ships built here. It was also home to some of the earliest slave markets. Its rich, long history ensures that there are plenty of buildings and historic sites worth visiting; the governor’s castle and the church of St Sebastian being two of them.
