Villa Karena is one of a small clutch of villas in the seaside hamlet of Sa Rapita on the south coast of Majorca. The blue sea is only a short stroll away, and the restaurants and shops of the village are also a short walk. For those who enjoy spending time at the beach, the closest stretch of fine white sand is Es Trenc, a short drive of 4km, which is one of the prettiest beaches on this part of the coast. For those seeking a wider choice of eateries, the closest village is Campos, 12km away. Here you will find a patisserie which has a reputation as one of the finest on the island.
A popular place to visit on this part of the coast is Colina de Sant Jordi, which has a number of pleasant fish restaurants by the harbour. Sa Platja des Port is close by the marina here and has nice facilities. A ferry leaves for the island of Cabrera (Goat Island) daily from Colina de Sant Jordi which is a popular visit for tourists. Designated a National park in 1991, the island has an illustrious past as both a pirate haven and a prisoner of war camp during the Napoleonic Wars. Because of its National Park status, there are no facilities on the island – not even a café – so be sure to take provisions with you.
Driving inland for 10km, you will find the town of Felanitx, well known for its capers, ceramics and locally produced wine. A local market is held in the town square here every Sunday, and is the ideal place to purchase fresh local produce or a souvenir to take home. There is also a fortress and castle here which has played an important role in resisting Moorish invasion in times gone by.
