Villa Simpatia is all on one level, with three bedrooms each sleeping two people.

Ground Floor

The accommodation at Villa Simpatia is all on one level, but the pool area and second terrace are on a lower level, reached through a gate on the upper terrace.

Villa Simpatia benefits from having two separate living areas. The first has a pretty stone fireplace, with a pale chimney breast, and warm coloured tiles keeping the room cool underfoot. Several armchairs are grouped around the fireplace, and a cosy rug with coffee table. There is a light wood dining table with chairs in front of the patio door which can be left open for a welcome breeze in the heat of the day, and also has a lovely outlook over the grounds while you eat. The second living area also has large patio doors, leading directly onto the upper terrace, with its fine views of the pool. This room houses the television, which has satellite channels, and the DVD player, and makes a good place for older children to retreat to. The room has two dark leather sofas – a comfortable place to curl up with a good book.

The kitchen of the villa is decorated in a retro fifties style, and has a circular breakfast table with four chairs ideal for family breakfasts. The kitchen comes fully equipped with a hob, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

Also on this level are the villa’s bedrooms. Two of the rooms have splendid traditional dark wood furniture, including intricate double beds and free standing wardrobes. The dark furniture is offset beautifully by the light linen and wooden floors. The third bedroom is a twin room, which is also stylishly furnished. All three bedrooms share the full family bathroom, which has a bath, wash basin and toilet. There is also a separate shower room.

Outside

The exterior of Villa Simpatia is a lovely place to spend your holiday. A pretty covered terrace with balustrade sits in the shade of an ornamental tree, and overlooks the pool terrace, which is on a lower level. There is outdoor dining furniture for those wishing to take advantage of the summer evenings, and on the lower terrace is a built-in barbecue with further dining furniture. The pool itself is separated from the upper terrace by a gate, which is perfect for arresting the movements of small children who can’t yet swim. The pool is rectangular and has a metal ladder for access. There are several pool side loungers for those who wish to bask in the sun, and parasols for those who wish to stay out of it. The pool area and garden has spiky traditional plants and shrubs, along with mature trees providing shade and privacy. The villa looks out over the orchards and groves of the Algave countryside and presents a peaceful, tranquil feel to the property.

Location

Villa Simpatia is set on a quiet road near the village of Saragacal, in the western Algarve, approximately 7km from the historic town of Lagos, on the coast. The closest restaurant is only a short walk away (1km) and the closest shop is only a short drive (3km). For more choice, Lagos on the coast, is an ancient town with a lively yet relaxed holiday vibe. There is a wide choice of restaurants to choose from, most of which can be found in the pedestrianised streets.The main square of Praça da Republica is framed by open air cafes, a nice place to indulge in a cool drink and watch the world go by. The square here is often graced with street entertainers – everything from magicians to living statues. The town played an important role in the Age of Discovery, and Henry the Navigator had a palace here. It is also the home of the first slave market in Europe. The town’s long history promises plenty of monuments to discover, including the governor’s castle and the church of St Sebastian.

Meia Praia is a beautiful 9.5km stretch of fine, white sand that runs along Lagos Bay. Just 3km away, this beach is ideal for long walks with your toes on the waves’ edge and has plenty of room to build a sandcastle kingdom. As well as snackbars/restaurants where you can enjoy a cooling drink or ice cream, there are a variety of water sports on offer; from para-gliding to windsurfing, sailing and surfing.
The nearby golf course of Boavista is an 18 hole course set among umbrella pines, and blossoming almond and fig trees. Spectacular scenery in which to enjoy a round, the course is only 8km away from the villa.
Those with kids may be interested in Lagos Zoo. Set in lovely landscaped gardens with exotic plants, the zoo has 250 different species of animal. There is an educational farm, souvenir shop and restaurant. Located between Sao Joao and Bensafrim, about 10km away.
