To the west, the scenery is dominated by mountains, vineyards and the valleys of the Rhone and Durrance rivers; the spectacular Pont de Diable arch spans the Ardeche river whose torrent has carved out incredible, deep river gorges. The ‘arriere pays’ is a beautiful mountainous region scented with lavender fields and dotted with charming villages perched high in the hills above lakes and rivers. To the south is the stunning Camargue region famous for its wild white horses and pink flamingos.
