Guide to Costa Teguise

At a glance

Costa Teguise is the second largest resort on the island and is a popular holiday villa destination for all ages. The fantastic beaches, good leisure facilities on offer and the open green spaces make it an interesting place to visit no matter what you would like to get out of your villa holiday.

There is plenty in Costa Teguise to entertain all ages. Playa de las Cucharas is the most beautiful of the three beaches with uninterrupted views and crystal clear blue waters, but Playa Bastian is another idyllic spot to enjoy the sub-tropical sunshine. Watersports are plentiful and include sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, snorkelling and scuba diving which can be arranged from the beaches. Just outside the resort is an 18-hole golf course and a water park for the kids. If you want to travel further afield, the Timanfaya National Park and the ancient capital, Arrecife are close by. Boat trips and submarine tours go from Puerto Calero, just outside Puerto del Carmen. Catamarans sail along the coast and offer snorkeling equipment and lunch. For the more adventurous, camel and horse rides are on offer.

Shopping is plentiful - the Cucharas Shopping Complex has jewelers, discount electrical stores and gift shops for most budgets and tastes. There are plenty of smaller supermarkets in the resort, catering for family barbecues in the villa on those balmy summer evenings. These stock a good range of international produce. The market at Teguise is worth a visit, and has a range of locally produced goods including pottery, tablecloths, and tourist souvenirs.

Chinese, Indian, Thai and seafood restaurants sit alongside fast-food outlets, but there is also a good selection of local restaurants serving traditional Canarian fare. Quality varies, but overall the standard is fairly good. Nightlife is lively, but not rowdy. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around the market place which stay open late, and the town has a nightclub and a disco. Legends bar has entertainment nights such as a hypnotist or tribute bands. There is also a casino at Hotel Oasis.

The resort tends to be windier than others on the island, making it one of the most popular destinations for windsurfers, and also provides a cooling breeze in the height of the summer.

  • Take time to go…

  • Discover the Cueva de los Verdes (Green Caves), part of an underground cave system formed 3000 years ago during the eruptions of Monte Corona. Once used to hide from pirates, the caves have the longest volcanic tunnel in the world.
  • Take a trip to The Cactus Garden, which was one of Manrique’s designs. It is an impressive collection of Cacti – over 1000 species are interspersed with metal sculptures and a restored windmill.
  • Join in with the fun and try your hand at windsurfing. There are windsurfing schools, shops and equipment rental companies clustered around the beach at Las Cucharas. All levels of experience are catered for and Absolute Beginners are welcome!
